Broccoli Gratin with Herbed Cream Cheese recipe

1 head broccoli, broken into florets
1 cup vegetable broth
1 (6.5 ounce) package herb and garlic-flavored cream cheese
3 tablespoons heavy cream
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning, or to taste
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 pinch ground nutmeg
½ cup grated Cheddar cheese, or as needed
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a casserole dish.

  2. Combine broccoli and vegetable broth in a pot and cook over medium heat until broccoli is almost tender, about 5 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain, and add to the casserole dish.

  3. Combine cream cheese, cream, and a few tablespoons of the vegetable broth from cooking the broccoli. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Distribute cream cheese mixture on top of the broccoli. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese and butter pieces.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven until cheese is melted and golden brown, about 45 minutes.
