4 large garlic cloves, minced
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 (28 ounce) cans whole Italian plum tomatoes (such as San Marzano)

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large pot. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, cook until garlic is soft and fragrant, making sure to not burn, about 1 minute. Pour in tomatoes. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until sauce has reduced and thickened, about 1 hour.

Recipe Note

A simple, basic, yet very tasty pasta sauce. I like to cook My Turkey Italian Meatballs (from this site) or other meats in it to add another layer of flavor. Add any herbs you like, as well. You can add tomatoes whole if you like a real chunky sauce, or blend them in a blender first to make a smooth sauce.
