1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle beer
½ onion, chopped
2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 tablespoon pickling spice
1 teaspoon dried Mexican oregano
2 bay leaves
cold water, as needed
1 pound raw shrimp

Directions

  1. Mix beer, onion, red pepper flakes, parsley, salt, butter, garlic, pickling spice, oregano, and bay leaves in a saucepan, add enough cold water to fill the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  2. Drop shrimp into the boiling liquid, let the mixture return to a boil, and cook until shrimp are bright pink and the meat is no longer transparent in the center, about 5 minutes, drain.
